NordnetBox Emotion - Manage Wi-Fi settings

Identifiant de l'article : 1511 Dernière mise à jour : 04/12/2024

This function is reserved for Nordnet customers who own a NordnetBox Emotion

Configuration is carried out from your Customer Area

Your NordnetBox is configured so that as soon as it is connected for the first time, you can start using Wi-Fi.

This article tells you how to change your Wi-Fi settings from your Customer Area. You will be able to:

  • enable / disable the Wi-Fi function.
  • change the name of your wireless network (SSID).
  • change your Wi-Fi key, also known as your network key or Wi-Fi password.
  • enable / disable the use of WPS if your NordnetBox is equipped with this feature.
  • enable / disable the use of the unified network (“Band Steering”), if your NordnetBox is equipped with this function.
  • change Wi-Fi channel if your connection is disrupted.
  • change the bandwidth (also called "Wi-Fi channel width").
  • change the connection mode (b/g or b/g/n), etc.

Access NordnetBox management from your Customer Area

To access the settings of your NordnetBox via the Customer Area, you must use your Nordnet connection. Make sure it is switched on and connected to your computer system.

  • To access your Customer Area, click the following link: https: //client.nordnet.com
Next, enter your Nordnet Customer Area username and password in the appropriate fields, and confirm.
  • Your username was given to you by Nordnet when you subscribed, in your Welcome email (or letter).

If you have forgotten your username and/or password, click the Forgot your password? link.

From the MY CONTRACTS section, click the Internet Box submenu.

Unified Wi-Fi network (Band Steering)

The NordnetBox Emotion simultaneously provides wireless networks in two bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Its unified network function means you no longer need to set up the two networks on your devices. They will automatically connect to the best-performing Wi-Fi network. To configure your Wi-Fi networks, click the network name 1

If necessary, you can disable the “Unified Wi-Fi Network” function by clicking the button referring to it 2. In the window that then appears, toggle the switch to the “Off” position.

Simplified mode

From the SIMPLE tab, you can:

  • toggle switch 1 to the right to activate the Wi-Fi network, and vice versa.

  • check/change your network name (SSID) 2

  • check/change the Wi-Fi password 4. It must contain between 8 and 63 alphanumeric characters (A-Z; a-z, 0-9) and/or special characters (e.g.: &é"'()=$@ç_,!?./§).

Have you changed your Wi-Fi key?

To continue connecting to this network via Wi-Fi, you will need to enter this new password on all your devices that use the same Wi-Fi network (smartphones, tablets, computers, connected TVs, gaming consoles, home automation devices, etc.).

To save your changes, click the SAVE button.

Expert mode

From the ADVANCED tab, in addition to the actions available from the SIMPLE tab, you can adjust the functions shown in the tables below:

Pair the WPS To activate the WPS pairing function, toggle switch 1 to the right and vice versa if you wish to disable it. This will either enable or disable the button on the front of the NordnetBox.
Enable Wi-Fi 6 Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless network standard, enabling much higher connection speeds than previous generations.
To enable Wi-Fi 6, turn switch 2 to the right and vice versa if you wish to deactivate it.

Change the Wi-Fi Channel NordnetBox automatically manages the channel (frequency) of its Wi-Fi networks. If you encounter signal disturbances or unwanted disconnections, you can force it to use a specific channel. Toggle the “Automatic Wi-Fi channel” switch to the left to disable, then select a new channel from the “Wi-Fi channel” drop-down list. Test several of them to assess any disruption.
If you are using a 5 Ghz network Instead of “auto”, you can choose one of the channels between numbers 36 and 140.

If you are using a 2.4 Ghz network

Instead of “auto”, you can choose one of the channels between numbers 1 and 13.

Change bandwidth

The bandwidth used has an impact on the theoretical throughput of the selected network. Choosing a high bandwidth provides high throughput but reduces network compatibility with older devices, and can sometimes cause (or be subject to) interference with other electronic devices and your neighbours’ Wi-Fi networks.  This setting should therefore be edited with care! To change its value, open the “Wi-Fi bandwidth” drop-down list.

If you are using a 5 Ghz network

To benefit from a higher throughput, select value 160 from the list (20, 40, 80 or 160).

If you are using a 2.4 Ghz network

To benefit from a higher throughput, select value 40 from the list (20 and 40).

Change authentication type

From the “Wi-Fi network security” section, you can change the type of authentication. We recommend using WPA / WPA2-Personal authentication

Unless you are familiar with the technical aspects of a Wi-Fi network, we recommend that you do not change the type of security.

Finally, click the Save button.
